Sally Miner (Member)

After a rich and varied career spanning healthcare, education, and leadership, I am now retired from my role as an Executive Head Teacher. My professional journey has been defined by a passion for supporting others and fostering growth — whether that be through patient care, student development, or leadership in education.

I began my career as a physiotherapist in 1985, working in both hospital and community settings before moving into Health Service Management. In this capacity, I managed the Community Physiotherapy Service and later took on the vital role of leading the resettlement of patients with learning disabilities into community-based support. I concluded my healthcare career as Business Manager for Walsall NHS Community Trust, where I honed my strategic planning, operational management, and leadership skills.

In 1998, I made the bold decision to change careers, qualifying as a teacher and soon specializing in mathematics — a subject I remain deeply passionate about. I joined Ryders Hayes in 2001, initially providing Walsall's after-school Advanced Maths Club. By January 2002, I became a full-time member of the team as Maths Lead and Advanced Maths Teacher for Walsall Local Authority.

From there, I took on a series of leadership roles, including Deputy Head Teacher in 2007. In 2014, I was appointed Head Teacher and later Executive Head Teacher, where I led the development of Ryders Hayes into a Teaching School and, subsequently, the Early Years Stronger Practice Hub. Throughout this time, I dedicated myself to improving teaching standards, supporting educators, and driving forward new initiatives to benefit children and families. After two decades of service to Ryders Hayes and the wider education community, I retired in August 2024.

My Story

Although I have stepped away from formal leadership, I remain passionate about supporting the wider education system. My experience as a teacher, school leader, and advocate for learning has left me with a deep understanding of the transformative power of education, and I’m committed to continuing this work as a Member for Primary Learning Trust.

Away from my professional commitments, I enjoy spending time with friends and family, especially my young granddaughter, who brings boundless joy to my life. I’m also a keen lover of films and music, and I find peace and relaxation through walking and cycling along the beautiful North Norfolk Coast. Retirement has given me the chance to focus on the people and pastimes that mean the most to me, but my passion for education and service remains as strong as ever.
