JOINING PROCESS

At Primary Learning Trust, we have a comprehensive and welcoming approach to new schools joining our family. Our streamlined seven-step process ensures a smooth transition.

We start by building relationships and discussing options, whether formal integration or partnership.

2. Mutual Due Diligence

Both parties conduct thorough due diligence, ensuring transparency and understanding.

3. Agreement in Principle

Once due diligence is complete, formal agreements are made by both parties.

4. Legal Framework

Legal advisors manage the necessary agreements and transfers.

5. Final Approvals

Both Boards provide final consent for the transition.

6. Transition & Integration

We support your school’s onboarding to our systems, offering full staff training and introductions to key teams.

  1. The transfer is complete, and your school is welcomed into the Trust.

Approval and

Legal Process

New Invention children learning

Schools must express their interest in becoming an academy to the Department for Education, after which the governing body can vote on the decision to convert. For certain schools, such as foundation or voluntary schools, approval from existing trusts or governing bodies may be required.

Once approved by the Secretary of State, an ‘academy order’ will be issued, enabling the school to begin the conversion process. Our team will assist with securing conversion grants, establishing new governance, and fulfilling all necessary legal requirements, including the TUPE consultation.

Stakeholder

Consultation

While the final decision to convert rests with the school’s governing body, it is essential to consult with all relevant stakeholders, including staff, parents, and the local community. This ensures transparency and engagement throughout the process.

Your governing body must follow Department for Education guidance and formally consult with anyone who has an interest in your school, including students, staff, and parents.
