Did you know the Paris Climate Agreement (signed in 2015) aims to keep global temperature rise below 1.5°C?
And did you know that 2024 was the hottest year on record?! The planet’s 10 warmest years have all occurred in the last decade!
Climate change isn’t just a global issue—it affects us all. Just this month, wildfires in California have destroyed nearly 12,500 structures. These fires are now 1.4 times more frequent than in previous decades.

What’s Being Done in the UK?
The UK government is working hard to decarbonise the economy, and the Department for Education has launched a Sustainability and Climate Change Strategy, including:
✅ Every school to have a Sustainability Lead & Climate Action Plan by 2025✅ The National Education Nature Park – enhancing biodiversity and air quality in schools✅ A Climate Action Award Scheme to celebrate schools making a difference
Can One Person Really Make a Difference?
Absolutely! Every action counts—whether at home, work, or school. Even small changes contribute to keeping global temperatures under control.

How New Invention Learning Academy is Leading the Way
Our school has a dedicated ‘Blueprint for a Greener Tomorrow’—a whole-school curriculum that integrates sustainability learning at every level:
🟢 Year 3: Reducing litter & recycling
🟢 Year 4: Bird habitats & nature conservation
🟢 Year 5: Microplastics & water conservation
🟢 Year 6: Renewable energy & tree planting

Eco-monitors explore how the school can reduce its carbon footprint through:
Energy saving initiatives
Recycling & waste reduction
Water conservation
Tree planting & biodiversity projects
Whole-school awareness campaigns
Our Sustainability Achievements So Far…
🌳 Planted many trees in school, including an oak tree for the King’s Coronation
🌾 Created raised beds for plants & herbs to support biodiversity
🍎 Planted an orchard – we now pick our own fruit!
⚡ Installed electric vehicle charging points for staff & visitors
♻️ Paper recycling bins in every classroom
🚮 Weekly litter picking across school grounds
🚶♂️ Encouraging students to participate in ‘Walk to School’ weeks
🚰 Promoting reusable bottles over single-use plastics
📲 Moving paperless by prioritising digital communication
🐦 Taking part in The Big School Birdwatch & Big Garden Birdwatch
🔋 Participating in the Big Battery Hunt to ensure proper battery disposal
🏡 Developing a wild nature area to support local wildlife
🌷 Partnering with the community to plant bulbs & fruit trees locally

Recognition for Our Hard Work!
We’ve even written to David Attenborough and King Charles—and received replies from both!
What’s Next?
We’re constantly looking for new ways to be greener. Next on our list: Installing solar panels!
The Challenges We Face
While we’re committed to sustainability, we know it’s not always easy. Some barriers include:
Lack of engagement from some stakeholders
Time constraints for staff to integrate sustainability into planning
Need for more training & awareness
Encouraging parental involvement
Resistance to change
What Can You Do? (And Save Money Too!)
🌍 Switch off lights & appliances when not in use
♻️ Reduce, reuse & recycle whenever possible
🚶 Walk instead of drive whenever you can
🐝 Plant insect-friendly plants to boost biodiversity
📢 Spread the word—talk about sustainability & lead by example!
☀️ Switch to renewable energy or install solar panels
🚿 Save water—take shorter showers & turn off taps when not needed
📧 Go digital to reduce paper waste
